Box Score

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) -Junior Ashley MacLelland (Kimberton, Pa.) scored a career high16 points for Lafayette in the Leopards' 71-60 loss to the Wagner Seahawks on Wednesday night.

A tenacious Wagner defense kept the Leopards (0-4) scoreless until the 15:25 mark when freshman Kara Stetler (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) hit her first of four three pointers to get the Leopards on the board. The Seahawks kept Lafayette under 10 for the majority of the first half before a jump shot by sophomore Brittney Rothweiler (Longmeadow, Mass.) got the Leopards within 20 at the 4:56 mark.

The Seahawks (2-2) were ahead 40-19 at the half, led by Carrie Walker's 20 points and 10 rebounds.

MacLelland opened up the scoring for the Leopards in the second half, hitting a jump shot in the first minute of play. MacLelland hit a three later in the final minutes of the game to put the Leopards within 14. A jump shot by Brianne Welte (Owosso, Mich.) just over a minute later narrowed the gap to 12. Welte finished with six points and a career high 14 rebounds.

Rothweiler nailed four free throws in the final minute to get Lafayette within nine, but that would be as close as the Leopards could get. Wagner's Ashley Linscott hit two of her own from the charity stripe in the final six seconds, ending the game with the Seahawks on top.

Sophomore Kristin Doherty (Upper Darby, Pa.) ended the game with 10 points, going 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Stetler, who shot .500 (4-8) from behind the three point arc, finished with 13 points, four assists, and two steals. Rothweiler went a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points.

Walker finished with 26 points and 20 rebounds for the Seahawks. Joy Gallagher added 14 points for Wagner while Linscott finished with 11.

The Leopards will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 6 as they continue their long road schedule with a trip to Harvard.
