Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Freshman Mike Scolaro scored a goal and dished for another, but Lafayette still lost to Villanova, 10-4, on Tuesday afternoon at Rappolt Field.

The Leopards and Wildcats battled through a competitive first half, trading goals in the opening quarters. Leopard goalie Michael Koch kept the game close in the opening half, making nine of his 12 saves in the first 30 minutes.

Tim Derosier scored on Lafayette's first shot of the game to give the Leopards a 1-0 advantage. Then Brian Marks found Richie Kratz just two minutes later as Villanova tied the game at 1-1 just four minutes in.

Left alone to the right of the net, Robert McLean buried the shot and helped Lafayette take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.

Villanova rattled off three straight goals to jump ahead 4-2 late in the second. Marc Creegan, Marks and Matt Lucas each found the back of the goal for the Wildcats.

Lafayette closed the gap to 4-3 right before the half when Drew Weisman fed Scolaro for the score.

The Wildcats utilized a four-goal outburst to take a commanding 7-2 lead at 13:21 of the fourth quarter. Creegan started the spurt with his second of the game and then Marks scored three straight to cap the rally.

Matt Lukof scored the last Leopard goal off a pass from Scolaro before Creegan ended the scoring with his third and fourth tallies of the game.

Joe Canuso finished with nine saves in goal for the Wildcats, with eight of his stops coming in the second half.

Lafayette (1-10) returns to Patriot League play on Saturday at Lehigh at 7 p.m.
