ORONO, Me. - The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Maine on Saturday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams.
Maine's Katie Hodge put the Black Bears ahead early with a goal at the 5:30 mark. Lafayette senior midfielder Meghan Ramsey evened the score five minutes later off an assist from Kerrie Kiley.
The match remained knotted at one until the Black Bears netted two rapid-fire goals late in the second half. Annie Hamel broke the tie with a goal at 74:39, while Kim Walsh followed with a goal just 36 seconds later.
The Black Bears out-shot Lafayette 21-3.
Lafayette (0-1) returns to action on Sunday, facing Sacred Heart at 2 p.m. Maine (1-0) will also take on Sacred Heart in its next match, Monday at 7 p.m.
