NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The Lafayette women's soccer team opened its 2026 season on the road Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Central Connecticut State.
CCSU took an early lead in the third minute when Riley Powers found the back of the net off an assist from Rebecca Devereux. Lafayette generated pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting the Blue Devils, 9-8, in the first 45 minutes.
The Blue Devils extended their lead in the 76th minute when Gabrielle Smith scored off a feed from Taylor Yepes to make it 2-0, which held to be the final tally.

Era Methoxha led the offense for the Leopards, placing three of her team-high five shots on goal, while forward
Ava Murphy and 2025 Patriot League Preseason Midfielder of the Year
Nadia Zaffanella added two shots apiece on goal. Despite continuous attacking attempts, Lafayette was unable to capitalize on its seven total shots on goal and six corner kick opportunities.
Both goalkeepers played the full 90 minutes. For CCSU, Melina Ford made seven saves, while Lafayette's
Catherine Apker stopped four shots.
The Leopards will next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Iona for a match at 1 p.m.
