Two Leopard Football Assistants Take On Coordinator Duties

Aug. 4, 2003

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette assistant football coaches Matt Hachmann and John Troxell have been assigned additional responsibilities within the Leopard program, head coach Frank Tavani announced today.

"I think they've both proven they are dedicated to the program and hard-working," Tavani said. "I feel that you have to recognize people's efforts and utilize people's strengths in order to have as successful a program as possible."

Hachmann, entering his fourth season as an assistant at Lafayette, will assume the role of special teams coordinator. He will still coach the linebackers, as he has done for the previous two seasons. Hachmann began his tenure at Lafayette as running backs coach.

Troxell, entering his third season at Lafayette, will assume the role of recruiting coordinator. He will remain the running backs coach, a position he has held during his first two years at Lafayette.

Hachmann has served on the football staff at four different NCAA Division I-A institutions. He came to College Hill from Maryland, where he performed the duties of offensive assistant and director of football operations. Prior to Maryland, Hachmann spent the 1997 and 1998 seasons as assistant offensive line coach at Oklahoma. He also served as assistant offensive line coach at Northern Illinois in 1995 and 1996. Following his 1993 graduation from St. Thomas, Minn., Hachmann served as the recruiting assistant at Northwestern for the 1994 season.

Troxell, a 1994 Lafayette graduate and starting free safety on the Leopards' 1992 Patriot League championship team, returned to College Hill via Muhlenberg College. He spent the 1997-2000 seasons at Muhlenberg, serving as special teams coordinator the first three years and offensive coordinator in his final season. Prior to his stint at Muhlenberg, Troxell spent the 1994-96 seasons at Columbia where he coached defensive backs. He was the assistant recruiting coordinator at Columbia in 1995 and 1996, and served as junior varsity head coach and defensive coordinator in 1996.

Lafayette opens the 2003 season at home against Marist on Sept. 6. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Fisher Field.
