WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's women's soccer team fell to Siena, 4-3, at the Gillette Army Women's Soccer Classic on Friday.
The Leopards led 3-2 after a high-paced first half that featured a total of 20 shots by the two teams combined.
After a Siena goal just 93 seconds in, senior midfielder Miriam Habeeb (Westfield, N.J./Kent Place School) hammered a shot through the goalie's fingers from 20 yards to even the score. Siena retook the lead at 22:06, but Lafayette's Meghan Sweeney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) scored the first of her two goals at 27:05 to knot the score at two. Sweeney gave the Leopards the lead at 31:33 on a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar and into the net.
Senior midfielder Meghan Ramsey (Lakeville, Minn./Great Valley) assisted all three first-half goals.
Siena inserted Noel Cox into goal at halftime, and she shut the Leopards out over the final 45 minutes. The Saints, meanwhile, netted the equalizer at 57:17 and the game-winner at 88:18.
Lafayette (0-4-2 overall) returns to action on Sunday, facing Albany at 1 p.m. as part of the Gillette Army Women's Soccer Classic.
