Army Defeats Lafayette Volleyball

WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette fell to Army in three games in a match-up of teams with identical 2-1 records in the Patriot League volleyball standings on Friday night at West Point.

The Black Knights won the first two games, 30-14 and 30-16, before Lafayette closed the margin to 30-27 in the final game. Army improves to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the league, while Lafayette falls to 9-7 overall and 2-2 within the league.

Freshman Michaela Donohue was the Leopards' best hitter, with seven kills in 21 attacks. Sophomore Veronica Canto-Ponce was in double-figures in kills for the 10th straight match. Lauren Dalsky led Lafayette with eight digs and Katie Moore had 16 assists.

Army put three players in double-figures in kills. Caitlin Machon posted a match-high of 16, while Rachael Travis had 12 and Eileen Cassidy had 11. Setter Abby Casciato handed out 38 assists as the Black Knights hit .306 on the evening.

Lafayette will look to push its league record above .500 on Saturday night in Worcester, Mass. as the Leopards play Holy Cross.
