EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - American scored once in each half and Alison Doyle made four saves as the Eagles downed Lafayette, 2-0, in Patriot League women's soccer action on Friday.
American (10-2-1 overall, 3-1 Patriot League), the defending league regular-season co-champs, controlled play at both ends of the field most of the evening in earning its fourth shutout win in its last five outings.
Marcela Ricupero put American in front for good just 10:24 into the match. She took a lead pass from Irene Karistinos into the right side of the box and beat Lafayette keeper Mary Kate Erdman to the far post. The goal was Ricupero's 10th of the season, second-most in the Patriot League.
Natalie Rodovsky cleaned up a loose ball in the box at 68:05 for her first goal of the season. A crossing pass was knocked down by a Leopard defender, and the ball rattled around between several players before Rodovsky was able to put enough of a touch on it to slide it into the net.
A high-paced first half that saw five shots taken by both teams slowed to a grinding defensive effort in the second. Only two shots were taken after halftime, with a total of 35 fouls combined whistled for the match.
Lafayette (3-8-0, 0-3) is back in action next Friday, visiting Navy for a Patriot League match at 7 p.m.
