Vanessa Van De Venter (Tannersville, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was named the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week for her performance in the season's opening weekend.
Van De Venter posted a double-double off the bench in the Leopards' 60-44 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday. She scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and pulled down 10 boards as Lafayette opened 1-0 for the first time since the 1997-98 season.
Van De Venter followed that with a nine-point, four-rebound performance on Saturday against Wayne State. All nine of her points came from the foul line, via a 9-of-10 day at the stripe.
Through two games, Van De Venter ranks second amongst her teammates in both scoring (11.5 ppg.) and rebounding (7.0 rpg.). She currently leads the Patriot League in free throws made with 13 (13-of-14).
Lafayette (1-1) returns to action on Saturday, visiting Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo at 4 p.m. Saturday's game will be played in downtown Buffalo at the HSBC Arena.
