WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.lafayette.edu) - Kate Carlin scored 17 points off the bench to lead Georgetown to a 79-52 win over Lafayette in women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
The Hoyas led from the opening tip and held a 36-16 halftime lead. Carlin was 4-of-5 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers in the second half, and Georgetown (3-4) shot 57 percent after intermission.
Freshman forward Vanessa Van De Venter got her first career start and led Lafayette (2-5) with 13 points. She was 4-of-5 from the field and made all five free throw attempts.
Junior guard Lindsay Myers scored 12 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and had three steals and two blocks for the Leopards. Sophomore Kara Stetler had nine points and was 2-for-4 from long range.
The Leopards were plagued by 16 first-half turnovers which led to 13 points for the Hoyas. Lafayette rebounded to shoot 52 percent in the second half.
Kieraah Marlow contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds, her third double-double of the season, for Georgetown. Kristin Heidloff and Varda Tamoulianis were also in double figures.
Lafayette will play at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Dec. 22 after an 11-day break for exams.
