Navy Tops Lafayette Women 71-53

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) -The Lafayette women's basketball team lost a 71-53 decision at Navy in Patriot League action on Sunday afternoon.

The Midshipmen (9-12, 3-4) opened up the scoring, with senior captain Courtney Davidson scoring the first nine points of the contest on three straight shots from behind the three-point arc. Davidson would finish with a game-high 30 points, including eight three-pointers.

Lafayette finally got on the board at the 17:53 mark on a jump shot from senior Elecia Kruise. Just over a minute later, junior Lindsay Myers hit a jumper of her own to pull the Leopards within seven.

Beginning with an Adrienne Roseti lay up at 16:04, the Midshipmen initiated a 12-0 run to go up 25-5 with 10:30 left to play in the first half.

Colleen Fitzpatrick capitalized on two free throws with 1:53 remaining on the clock to keep the Leopards within 10. Myers closed out the scoring on a jump shot with just under 40 seconds left to play to send Lafayette to the locker room down nine, 36-27.

The Leopards came back from the break and scored a quick four points to move within five, but a trey by Navy's Davidson at the 17:47 mark put the Mids back up by eight, 39-31.

Navy's Abi Campbell sparked a 9-0 run by the Mids at the 13:20 mark. The spurt ended when Tricia Indoe put in a lay up at the 12:49 mark to move the score to 53-37.

Navy hit six straight three pointers, including three by Davidson, to close out the game. Davidson finished with 30 points, going 8-of-14 from behind the three-point arc for her second straight 30-plus point game. Roseti ended with 15 points and nine rebounds while Campbell added 12 for the Midshipmen.

Fitzpatrick led the Leopards with 12 points. Kruise chipped in seven and Doherty, Shannon Dorsey and Naida Dupovac each added six apiece.

Lafayette (0-20, 0-7) will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 as they travel to Colgate to take on the Raiders in Patriot League action.
