ORLANDO, Fla. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's softball team split a pair of contests in its first day of action at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla. The Leopards began the day with a 7-0 loss to Tennessee-Martin, but rebounded with a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
In the nightcap, Megan Averbuch (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfield) recorded her first collegiate win, striking out 11 and walking none in a complete-game three-hitter.
She also provided the spark at the plate, driving in Samantha Lucas (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) with the game's only run in the fourth inning.
Kathryn Longshore (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) led off the fourth with a double and was replaced on second base with Lucas. A Meghan Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatoboro-Horsham) single moved Lucas to third and Averbuch followed with another base hit to drive in Lucas.
Abby Weichert (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) was 2-3 at the plate in the win.
Lafayette (1-3) returns to action on Monday, facing Wisc.-Green Bay and Cleveland State.
