BLACKSBURG, Va. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's fencing team took seventh overall at the MACFA Championships on Feb. 29 at Virginia Tech.
The Leopards' foil squad, consisting of freshman Brendan O'Dea and sophomores Mark Lodato and Mat Ingraham, took fifth, while the epee and sabre squads both finished seventh.
O'Dea and senior Tom Gauntner (sabre) both advanced to the championship round and took ninth in their respective events.
Six Leopards qualified for the NCAA Regional competition at Drew University on March 13: O'Dea, Gauntner, Lodato, Andrew Thomas (sabre), Dave Watrous (epee) and Bobby Boguski (epee). Gauntner will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Regionals.
