Men's Track and Field Hosts Lafayette Invitational

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -Machel Morrison broke the school record in the 100m dash and Richard Jackson set a new standard in the 400m hurdles as the Lafayette men's track and field team hosted the annual Lafayette Invitational at Fisher Field.

Morrison's time of 10.53, which was also the fastest time of the day, broke his own school record of 10.64, set last spring.

Jackson's time of 53.29, which was good enough for second place overall in the event, broke a 14-year old record, set by Greg Ellis in 1989 with a time of 53.50.

Morrison also finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.75. Teammate Christopher Nixon, who finished fifth in the 100m in 10.98, placed fifth in the 200m with a time of 22.03.

Also in the 100, finishing sixth and seventh respectively, were Lafayette runners Kristopher Carey (11.02) and James Strada (11.05). Jeffrey Silvan also competed in the event, finishing in a time of 11.99. Carey also placed second in the 110m high hurdles in a time of 14.99.

Tom Kennedy placed first in the 1500m run for Lafayette, finishing in a time of 3:56.20. Matthew Taverna was second in the event, running a time of 3:56.70. Gregory Swiatocha also ran in the mile, posting a time of 4:12.80.

Nick Birosik finished third for the Leopards in the 5000m run in a time of 15:56.40, while the 4x400m relay team also posted a third place finish in a time of 3:22.31.

Seven Leopards represented the team in the 800m run, led by Colin McDonough with a ninth place finish in a time of 1:56.66. Reginald Clay followed with a close 10th place finish in 1:56.75. Greg Corcoran (1:58.53), Tucker Reardon (1:59.40), Carlos Garcia (2:00.91), Matthew Puglisi (2:01.96) and Daniel Kucz (2:06.34) also ran in the event.

John Paul Botti finished 17th in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:05.20.

In the field events, the Leopards were led by freshman Tyler Jones, who posted a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 46.73m followed by a second place finish in the shot put with a distance of 15.00m.

Michael DeGregorio added a second place finish in the hammer throw to the men's results, throwing a distance of 49.74m. Jonathan Rowe placed fifth in the event with a throw of 44.60m, while Richard Polley threw 36.10m in the first round of competition.

Stephen Malloy and Conor Stephens represented Lafayette in the first round of the javelin competition, which was won by former Leopard Ethan Blose, who was competing unattached.

In the jumping events, Jeffrey Sejour placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.99m. Adam Callaghan finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 6'4".

Mike Berginc (5.86m) and Ross Creed (5.65) also participated in the long jump for Lafayette.

The men's track and field team will be back in action on Friday, April 23 as they participate at the Penn Relays held at the University of Pennsylvania.
