BURLINGTON, Vt. (www.lafayette.edu) - New Hampshire scored a pair of first-half goals to hand Lafayette a 2-0 loss in the opening match of the Banknorth Soccer Classic at the University of Vermont on Saturday. The match was the season-opener for both squads and the first meeting between the two schools. New Hampshire got on the scoreboard first when Jackie Wishoski, who shattered the school's single-season scoring records as a sophomore in 2003, netted an unassisted goal at 7:06. In the 33rd minute, Kelly Collins finished off a crossing pass from Adriana Gonzalez-Medina. Lafayette senior Amy Kalista was solid in the net. Despite allowing the two goals, she collected 10 saves while facing 17 New Hampshire shots in 90 minutes. Offensively, the Leopards (0-1) were able to muster just two shots against the Wildcats (1-0), who returned 10 starters from last year's unit that advanced to the America East Tournament semifinals. Sophomore Trista Burke and freshman Ashley Richards were responsible for the Leopards' shots. Liz MacKay made just one save in earning the shutout in net for UNH. Lafayette is back in action on Sunday, facing tournament host Vermont. The Catamounts fell to defending Big 12 Tournament champ Oklahoma State, 2-1, on Saturday.
