EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Rebecca Brown's 24 points led three players in double figures as Princeton defeated Lafayette, 82-72, on Tuesday in Kirby Sports Center in the non-league finale for both clubs.
Brown hit 10-of-13 shots from the floor, including 7-of-8 in an 18-point second half.
Lafayette's Lindsay Myers equaled a career high with 22 points in the loss.
Princeton opened an early 16-point lead courtesy of a 13-0 run midway through the first half. Freshman Meagan Cowher scored eight points and handed out three assists as the Tigers built a 25-9 lead.
It took Lafayette just over three minutes to cut the lead in half, 27-19, but Princeton went on to out-score the Leopards 11-5 over the half's final three minutes to take a 43-28 lead into the break.
Brown scored eight points as Princeton (8-5) opened the second half with a 10-2 burst, extending the lead to 53-30. Lafayette (3-15) immediately answered with a 13-2 run to pull within 12, 55-43, with just over 14 minutes left, but the Leopards would get no closer than 11 until the final minute.
Katy O'Brien hit 4-of-8 three-pointers and finished with 16 points and eight assists for Princeton, while Cowher added 15 points, five assists and three steals.
Myers hit 8-of-16 from the floor in equaling her career high. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Brianne Welte, Kristin Doherty and Kara Stetler all tallied eight points as 10 different Leopards cracked the scoring column.
Lafayette, which eclipsed the 70-point plateau for the second-straight game, held a 20-10 edge at the foul line and 34-30 advantage on the boards. The Leopards posted 44 points in the second half against Princeton, the second time in as many outings that Lafayette has put up more than 40 in a half.
Lafayette opens a four-game road swing this weekend, visiting Patriot League preseason favorite Holy Cross and Army on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
