Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Freshman guard Cara Enright scored Army's first seven points of the game, then accounted for her team's final six points by hitting all six of her free-throw attempts in the final minute of regulation to cap a 63-49 win for the Black Knights over Lafayette on Sunday.

Enright, the three-time reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week, finished with 24 points and nine rebounds. She was 6-of-10 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the foul line.

Junior guard Kristin Doherty led Lafayette with a season-high 17 points, nine of which came during a frantic 40-second span in the second half when she hit three-pointers on three consecutive possessions.

Army (11-9 overall, 4-3 Patriot League) expanded its first-half lead to double digits late in the period, then appeared to be comfortably in front by 19 midway through the second stanza. Doherty, however, pulled Lafayette (3-17, 1-6) back within striking distance by burying triples on three straight possessions to slice the margin to 10. Vanessa Van De Venter hit a jumper on the next trip to cut the difference to eight, then later added a free throw to cap the 12-0 run and draw the Leopards within seven, 46-39, with 8:00 left.

The teams essentially traded baskets over the next five minutes, and the Leopards still trailed by just seven after a pair of Naida Dupovac foul shots with 2:23 remaining. Lafayette got a stop at the defensive end, but Van De Venter's contested shot in the lane rimmed out and the Black Knights' Lindsay Brent converted an old-fashioned three-point play to put Army back in front by 10. Enright hit all six of her foul shots in the final 53 seconds, while Lafayette's only points following Dupovac's free throws were a pair of Van De Venter foul shots with 21 seconds left.

Both teams were sloppy out of the gate, with Enright finally hitting the game's first field goal 4:29 into the contest. The Leopards finally got on the board via a pair of Van De Venter foul shots 6:22 in; she also collected Lafayette's first field goal 23 seconds later.

Army's offense came to life late in the first period and the Black Knights out-scored Lafayette 20-7 over the final 9:02 of the half. The run, coupled with 18 first-half turnovers, sent Lafayette into halftime in a 27-15 hole.

Army hit five of its first seven shots from the floor while opening the second half on a 14-6 run that stretched the lead to 41-21 with 15:26 left. The 20-point spread was the largest of the game.

Shavonne Holden joined Enright in double figures for Army. She scored 10 of her 12 points after halftime and added six rebounds.

Doherty was 6-of-14 from the floor, including 3-of-9 from three, for Lafayette. Van De Venter joined her in double figures with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Lafayette wraps up its four-game road trip next weekend, visiting Bucknell and Colgate on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
