WORCESTER, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - Keith Simmons scored nine points in a 15-2 second-half run by Holy Cross as the Crusaders won their 10th straight game, 81-60, on Friday night.
Lafayette (6-17, 2-8) trailed 44-33 before Marcus Harley capped a quick 7-0 spurt with a three with 14:55 left. Sean Knitter cut an eight-point lead to five with 12:31 remaining, and hit a jumper at 11:19 to make the score 42-37.
Holy Cross (18-5, 9-1) responded with a four-minute stretch that extended its advantage to 67-49 with 7:19 left. Simmons knocked down three straight shots from long range and finished the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 13-3 lead and were ahead 23-10 when the Leopards rattled off eight straight. A jumper by Paul Cummins started the run, Ted Detmer hit a triple, and Jamaal Hilliard had an offensive board and putback to make the score 23-18 with six minutes left in the half. Holy Cross led 38-26 at the break.
Kevin Hamilton had 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals as Holy Cross put five players in double figures. John Hurley recorded 11 points, 11 boards and three blocks, and Tim Clifford blocked six shots.
Knitter led Lafayette with 13 points. Hilliard scored 12 and Harley had 10 for the Leopards.
Lafayette will play at Army on Sunday at 1 p.m.
