Kaba Added to Leopard Men’s Basketball Staff

ESU alumnus set to begin immediately as an assistant coach

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's basketball head coach Mike McGarvey added Muhamadou Kaba to his staff as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season. Kaba comes to College Hill after five years at the helm of Delaware Valley.

"Coach Kaba is a well-respected, rising star in the coaching profession who has experience building championship teams as an assistant coach, and most recently, as a head coach," McGarvey said. "I'm thrilled to add him to our staff on College Hill as our team will benefit from his ability to evaluate, develop and mentor student athletes."

Since taking over for the Aggies in 2021, he transformed the program into one of the premier squads in the MAC Freedom Conference, culminating in the program's 2025 league tournament championship and NCAA Division III Tournament berth. His leadership earned him both the MAC Freedom Coach of the Year and D3Hoops.com Region IV Coach of the Year laurels that season.

Under Kaba's direction, Delaware Valley produced the 2025 MAC Freedom Player of the Year Antonio Redding, an all-region selection, and three All-MAC Freedom honorees. Beyond competitive success, he has led significant growth in recruiting, fundraising, alumni engagement and community outreach.

Prior to Delaware Valley, Kaba spent four years as assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University, helping guide ESU to multiple NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, a 2018 Atlantic Region Championship and an Elite Eight appearance. The program captured consecutive PSAC East regular-season titles and developed numerous all-conference and all-region players during his employment. Kaba finished with an overall record of 86-34 and was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 30-Under-30 list in 2018.

A former standout student-athlete at East Stroudsburg, he played in 113 career games while helping the Warriors as part of three-straight Division II NCAA Tournament and four PSAC Final Four rosters. The East Orange, N.J. native holds a Master's in Exercise Science (2018) and a Bachelor's in Mathematics (2015).

"I'm very excited for the opportunity to join the Lafayette College staff under Coach McGarvey," Kaba said. "Having competed against his programs in the past, I've always had a great deal of respect for the way they compete. I look forward to being a part of the Lafayette community and competing for championships!"

Kaba will be replacing Cameron Ayers, who spent four seasons with the Maroon and White, on the Lafayette coaching staff.
