WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's lacrosse team continued to battle its way through one of the toughest season-opening scheduling stretches in the country, dropping a 14-2 decision at No. 6 Army on Tuesday night.
The young Leopards were playing their third top-20 opponent in 10 days. Lafayette's first two Patriot League opponents, Navy on March 15 and Army on Tuesday, were ranked in the top six.
The Black Knights (4-1 overall, 2-0 Patriot League), on the strength of four first-half goals by Jim Wagner, led 10-0 at halftime. The margin was 11-0 in the third quarter when sophomore Bart Seifert netted an unassisted goal to put the Leopards (0-6, 0-2) on the board.
Sophomore Sean Burek's fourth goal of the year wrapped up the scoring early in the fourth quarter.
Wagner added an assist to his four goals for a game-high five points. Justin Bokmeyer added three goals for Army.
Sophomore Chris Rosa made 14 saves in the cage for the Leopards, who were out-shot 46-31 for the contest.
Lafayette returns to action on Saturday, hosting Bucknell at 1 p.m.
