PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's soccer team saw its non-conference schedule come to an end Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss at Penn. Quaker sophomore forward Molly Weir tallied all three of the game's goals, including what would turn out to be the game winner in the 55th minute to break a scoreless tie. Weir added goals in the 59th and 74th minutes to tally a hat trick for her first three collegiate goals.
After a scoreless first half, the Quakers broke through when a long ball was sent into the box by Megan Boys, where it was one-timed by Jessica Fuccello, before being finished by Weir.
The 1-0 lead was short lived, as the Quakers added an insurance goal just over four minutes later when Fuccello again found Weir for her second goal of the match.
The sophomore completed the hat trick when Jess Rotheneber sent a creative back-heel ball to find a streaking Weir. She pushed the ball around junior Leopard goalkeeper Mary Kate Erdman and finished with the left foot directly in front of the goal.
Erdman tallied a season-high ten saves for the Leopards, while Quaker goalkeeper Sara Rose only had to turn away one Leopard shot on goal for her second shutout of the season.
The Leopards will be forced to rebound quickly. Two days of practice will be the only time Lafayette will have to prepare for a crucial Patriot League weekend. Defending champion Bucknell invades Easton on Friday night, with gametime scheduled for 7 p.m. The weekend concludes less than 48 hours later, when Colgate visits Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
