WORCESTER, Mass. - Despite a single-game record eight three-pointers by sophomore Andrew Brown, the Lafayette men's basketball team ended its season with an 83-53 defeat at top-seeded Holy Cross on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament. Tim Clifford led the Crusaders with 22 points, including 18 in the first half.

The Leopards took an 11-10 lead off a Brown three-pointer with 15:21 remaining in the first half. From there, the Crusaders grabbed control of the game, holding Lafayette scoreless over the next eight minutes until another Brown three-pointer broke the drought with 3:11 left in the half. Holy Cross finished the half on a 32-7 run, and took a 42-18 advantage into intermission.

A quick 7-2 run to start the second half cut the Lafayette deficit to 19, forcing Crusader head coach Ralph Willard into a 30-second timeout. Out of the timeout, the Crusaders went on a 14-0 run to take a 58-25 lead with 12:36 remaining in the game. Holy Cross held its largest lead (67-30) on its way to the 83-53 victory.

Brown's eight three-pointers tied the Lafayette single-game record which he shares with Tyson Whitfield (2000) and Larry Spigner (1991). Brown ended with 26 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor.

Clifford was joined in double figures by Torey Thomas (13) and Keith Simmons (12).

Lafayette finishes the 2006-07 campaign at 9-21. Holy Cross moves to the semifinal round of the Patriot League tournament, where it will host American on Sunday afternoon.
