EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center. Sophomore Katrina Racibarskas led the team with 13 kills as the Leopards earned a weekend split in league play after having defeated Bucknell on Friday night.
The Leopards (8-15, 3-6) won the opening set 26-24 before losing 25-10, 25-17 and 25-23 decisions. Freshman Alana Taylor joined Racibarskas in double-digit kill totals with 12 and also added five blocks assists.
Lafayette opened the match with a thrilling 26-24 victory. The set was tied 13-all before a power outage caused a delay in the game. The Leopards kept their focus though, as the lead changed hands over the remainder of play. The score was tied at 24 before Lafayette closed out the win on a service ace by Racibarskas.
Colgate (10-12, 5-4) responded with a 25-10 win in the second set. The Raiders led from start to finish in the 15-point victory, evening the match at 1-1.
The third set was much closer, as Lafayette remained within one (18-17) late in the match but the Raiders recorded the final seven points to earn the win.
In the fourth set, Lafayette again kept it tightly-contested with both teams seeing shares of the lead. Lafayette went up 16-15 on a kill by Cara Mulholland. Racibarskas tied it at 20-all with a kill but Colgate went on to score five of the final eight points to secure the victory and win the match.
Lafayette takes a break from league play when the Leopards travel to Wagner on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. match.
