ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette swimming and diving teams capped off its 2007-08 season with the final day of Patriot League championships on Saturday. The women notched a fourth place finish in the team standings, while the men ended the meet in seventh position.
Sophomore Jen Nunn got the Leopard afternoon started with a Lafayette school record in the 1650 yard freestyle. Nunn finished in seventh place finish overall at 17:34.14. Freshman Maricate Conlon continued the Lafayette scoring with a sixth place time in the finals of the 200 yard backstroke, picking up 13 Leopard team points. Senior classmates Liz Geary (2:08.95) and Julie Sauer (2:10.15) finished 10th and 14th, respectively, in the consolation finals.
Katie Kaczka capped off her impressive championships with a sixth place mark in the 100 yard freestyle. Kaczka clocked in at 52.82 seconds, securing another 13 points for the Leopards in the team standings.
Sophomore Barbara Pennington (2:27.50) and freshman Laura Jordan (2:28.66) registered 11th and 12th place times in the 200 yard breaststroke.
Pennington's classmate, Kristen Tyler, notched a ninth place time in the 200 yard butterfly one event later, clocking in at 2:10.19. She was followed by junior teammate Kerry Nichols five places back in 14th position.
The women capped off their day with a fourth place showing in the 400 yard freestyle. The foursome of Hilary White, Geary, Marcella Nehrbass and Kaczka teamed up for a 3:33.02 time.
On the men's side, sophomore John Jenkins (46.97 seconds) claimed 11th position in the 100 yard freestyle, as the men wrapped up the meet with 201 points.
Fellow sophomore Stephen Rubino grabbed first place in the consolation finals (ninth overall) in the men's 200 yard butterfly, touching in at 1:55.71, while junior Brian Cronise tallied a 264.75 score in the three meter diving for sixth place in the championships.
The women registered a fourth place point total with 401 points, preceded by Colgate (723.5), Navy (679) and Bucknell (644.5) The Leopards edged our archrival Lehigh (328), Army (304), American (275) and Holy Cross (150).
The men notched seventh position in the standings. Navy grabbed the team title with 887 overall points.
