HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak come to a halt on Saturday afternoon, as it dropped a 15-4 decision to Patriot League foe Colgate. Four different Leopards found the scoring column, each tallying a goal apiece.
Colgate raced out to a 5-0 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes of play, all off even strength goals and ignited by a 6-for-6 face-off advantage.
Two Raider goals opened the second period before freshman Tom Perini sent home his 23rd goal of the season off an Andrew Horton assist. An even-strength and man-advantage pushed the Colgate lead to 9-1.
Lafayette closed out the first half with a Cesar Munoz goal at the 2:12 mark, but it was the Raiders that took a 9-2 margin into intermission.
The Leopards could not mount a second half comeback, managing only a Brett Djaha goal with 7:57 left in the third quarter and another tally from reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Steve Serling with 10:31 remaining in the game. Both goals were unassisted.
Perini paced the Leopards with six shots on the afternoon, including five on goal. Colgate outshot Lafayette 40-28. The Raiders won 18-of-22 faceoffs in the contest.
Lafayette returns home Tuesday when it hosts Army. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
