Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh's offense proved too much for the Lafayette women's basketball team to overcome as the Leopards lost a 73-51 road decision to their archrival. Lafayette trailed by only four at halftime, but the Mountain Hawks out-scored the Leopards 39-21 in the second half to pull away for the eventual 22-point win.
Despite Lafayette's leading scorer, LaKeisha Wright, logging only eight minutes of action in the first half due to early foul troubles, the Leopards went into halftime with the lead easily in sight. However, a 28 percent second-half shooting effort combined with Lehigh's 55 percent showing ultimately resulted in the loss for Lafayette (8-12, 2-3). Wright finished with 14 points while Jessica Spicer added 11 to go along with a season-tying eight rebounds.
Spicer gave the team a 7-4 edge four minutes into the action with a three-pointer and a three-point play by freshman Sarah McGorry with less than 14 minutes to play put Lafayette up 14-7.
Less than three minutes later, Kristen Dalton cut Lafayette's advantage to two (14-12) with a three pointer and Melissa Rich gave the Mountain Hawks (15-5, 4-1) their first lead (16-14) since game's opening play. Alexandra Serowoky kept Lafayette within two (24-22) with her first basket of the night and senior Cristin Zavocki scored five points of the half's final seven points to keep the Leopards within four (34-30).
Lehigh's Erica Prosser scored the first four points of the second half as the Mountain Hawks opened the period with an 11-0 run, capped off by a three-point play from Prosser with 15:53 on the clock. The 2008-09 Patriot League All-Rookie Team selection finished with a game-high 24 points.
Dalton drained her second three of the night to make it 55-33 with 13 minutes to play and Lehigh led by 20 or more for the majority of the final eight minutes of the game. Spicer sank three free throws with 4:09 on the clock to make it 64-47, but the Leopards did not pull any closer as Lehigh went on to capture its 15th win of the season.
The Leopards return home for two games, beginning on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Army.
