St. Peter's Box Score
Akron Box Score
OSCEOLA, Fla. - The Lafayette softball team struggled in its opening matchups of the week-long Rebel Spring Games on Monday, losing to St. Peter's, 3-1, and dropping a 5-0 decision to Akron.
In addition to contributing two hits and scoring a run against St. Peter's, junior Kasey Karr pitched a complete game, retiring six and giving up a season-low five hits. But when the Peahens (1-5) did hit, they made it count.
In the top of the second, Kristen Kinneer singled to shortstop to get things going for St. Peter's. After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt and another ground out to second, Kinneer scored on a wild pitch.
Tricia Reingle homered to right center on the Peahen's first at bat of the fifth inning. She struck again in the seventh over the right center field wall, building a 3-0 deficit for Lafayette (1-7).
In the bottom of the seventh, a comeback looked promising for the Leopards as Karr doubled in the lead-off spot. Stacey Kushner drove her home with a single to left field. Kerry Griffin reached on a fielder's choice, but Kushner's pinch runner, Amanda Parker, was tagged out at second. Lafayette's next two batters flied out and popped up to end the game.
Karr kept up Lafayette's offense in the second game, hitting 1-for-3 against Akron (11-9). Freshman Carly Feiro also hit 1-for-3 against the Zips.
Lafayette resumes play on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. matchup against Columbia followed by an 11 a.m. game against Wagner.
