Each week, the staff at GoLeopards.com catches up with a student-athlete and today, we caught up with senior softball player Kasey Karr. The Economics and Business major filled us in on biochemistry, Patriot League championships, trashy television and more.
What's your major and what do you like about your major? I am an AB Biochemistry major, with a Business and Economics minor. I'm hoping to be able to utilize my biochem background in combination with my business minor to work for a chemical or biotech company in sales and marketing project management.
What class are you most looking forward to this spring? I am doing an independent study with Professor Averett of the Economics department, and I feel like it will be a very interesting chance to explore a subject in my own way.
What is your earliest softball memory? I can remember the day I decided I wanted to be a pitcher. I was watching one of the older girls in my town pitch, and when I went home I told my mom and dad that I wanted to do it, too. Thirteen years later, here I am!
What's your pregame ritual? Any superstitions? I have a piece of tape inside of my helmet that says "Only you can beat yourself," that I look at every time I put my helmet on, just as a reminder and confidence booster. I also have different handshakes with all the catchers that I do in the circle before every inning.
What do you still wish to accomplish (on or off the field)? Winning the Patriot League Tournament and moving on to NCAA Regionals.
Sport you would play other than your own? Lacrosse (I even have my own lacrosse stick in the trunk of my car!)
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I've always wanted to travel to Greece or Ireland.
How'd you spend the interim session? At home in Ohio with my family. I did spend a weekend in Pittsburgh with (teammate) Stacey Kushner, where she came with me to get my newest tattoo. I also did an externship in Allentown for three days with Fragrance Manufacturing Inc.
Best gift you got over the holidays? My birthday is pretty close to Christmas and I got a 32" TV which my roommates, Gwen Turner and Jessika Smith, also get to enjoy in our common room (and Stacey Dorn who practically lives with us).
Who would play you in a movie? Kate Walsh, because she's a ginger, too.
Favorite TV shows as a kid? Darkwing Duck, Doug, and anything in the TGIF lineup.
You can only eat one food for the rest of your life. What would it be? Lately I've been eating a lot of oranges...?
Favorite midnight snack? Pickles and/or cheese.
TV show I can't stop watching: There's a bunch that fall in this group... House, Jersey Shore, Tough Love- trashy reality television gets me every time. Oh, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
