HAMILTON, N.Y. - Since scoring three goals in back-to-back victories over Holy Cross and NJIT, the Lafayette men's soccer team has struggled to find the back of the net. The Leopards were held scoreless for the third time in four matches on Saturday, coming up empty in a 2-0 Patriot League loss at Colgate.
The Leopards have now dropped four straight matches, scoring just one goal during that span. Lafayette sits at 5-6-2 on the season with a 1-3 mark in Patriot League play. Colgate, which had been nationally ranked earlier this season, moves to 7-3-3 overall with a perfect 4-0-0 record in the League.
After a scoreless first half, the Raiders started the scoring less than two minutes into the second period. Steven Miller provided the tally off of a feed from Nick Arpey at 46:46 to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Colgate added an insurance goal in the 75th minute, as Matt Schuber scored for the Raiders to bring the score to its eventual final of 2-0. George McFarland recorded the assist.
The Leopards were doubled up in both total shots (16-8) and shots on goal (8-4). Sophomore Kyle Scharfenberg fired three of the Leopards' eight attempts. Lafayette was also edged in corner-kick opportunities, 4-3.
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Pianko made six saves for the Leopards. Chris Miller posted a clean sheet after making four stops in net for Colgate.
The Leopards return to Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 19 to host Cornell at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live via LSN All-Access.
