Lafayette Holds American to a 1-1 Tie

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Lafayette women's soccer team traveled to the nations capital for a match-up against American on Friday afternoon. After 110 minutes of play, the game ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw. The Leopards move to 0-2-3 in Patriot League play and 6-7-3 overall.

After a scoreless first half, American's (5-10-2, 1-2-2) Friederike Engel was able to score the first goal of the game in the 54th minute of the game off a corner. Brooke Sheppard aided with a the assist.

Lafayette answered back 10 minutes later as Gina Milone found Elizabeth Cole in front of the net to send the ball souring past the keepers head on the left side.

The Leopards were outshot by a slim margin, 14-10, while sophomore Lauren Smedley made six saves while American's Lindsey Farthing made four in the game.

Lafayette travels north 40 miles to take on Navy on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Annapolis, Md. The Leopards return home on Oct. 30 to take on archrival Lehigh under the lights at Oaks Stadium.
