EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team came out strong wearing all black for the first time this season to take on Patriot League foe Bucknell on Friday night at Oaks Stadium. The Leopards were able to score early but the Bison answered back with two second half goals to walk away with a 2-1 win.
In the 26th minute of the game, junior Gina Milone knocked the ball into the back of the net off a rebound kick by classmate Meredith McCann.
Lafayette (6-6-1, 0-1-1) goalkeeper Lauren Smedley made two key saves during the 90 minute game. The first coming off a Bucknell corner, Alex Degarmo took the shot and Smedley made the diving save to keep the Leopard lead into the half.
Bucknell (4-10-0, 2-0-0) scored its first goal of the game in the 58th minute by forward Christa Matlack from two-yards out. The Bison added a second goal 20 minutes later as Kara Cort made a long run down the middle of the field to find Brooke Stokes in front of the goal for the game-winner.
The Bison outshot the Leopards 11-7 while Smedley made five saves in the game. Bucknell's Sandita McDermott made three saves and the Bison had seven corners to Lafayette's two.
The Leopards make a quick turn-around as they host Patriot League opponent Colgate on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. game time.
