Box Score
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lafayette could do little to cool Navy's hot, three-point shooting, falling 62-42 to the Mids, who scored 36 of their points on baskets from beyond the arc.
Navy (13-12, 5-5) took 32 shots from three-point range. Kristin Bowen accounted for 28 points, an impressive 24 of which came from three-point land.
Lafayette (4-20, 2-8), meanwhile, managed to take a season-high 57 shots from the field but connected on only 18, six of which came from LaKeisha Wright, who led the Leopards with 13 points.
Rebounds also proved troublesome for Lafayette, as Navy doubled up the Leopards 48-24, including 15 on the offensive end.
Baskets were hard to come by for both squads in the early going, and it stood 5-4 Navy after more than five minutes of action.
Lauren Jackson's bounce pass set Elizabeth Virgin up for an easy layup, making it 6-5 in favor of the Leopards with 13:44 to play.
Back-to-back Lafayette baskets stretched the lead to five (10-5) before Jasmine Pitts's three tied it at 10-all with 10:20 on the clock.
That marked the beginning of a 12-0 Midshipmen run over the course of just two minutes that upped their lead to 17-10.
Navy continued to get wide-open three-point looks and connected on most of them, as Bowen sank four in the first half. Seven of Navy's 11 first-half field goals came from beyond the arc, and the team held a double-digit lead for the final 4:48 of the second half.
Samantha Jordan's fastbreak layup at 1:40 did keep it a 10-point game (29-19), but the Mids went into halftime holding a 32-21 advantage.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Bowen's fifth trey of the evening kept her squad ahead 37-25. Navy remained up by double figures and a three-point play by K.C. Gordon at 7:56 made it 51-34.
The Leopards continued to fall victim to the three, trailing 56-40 on another Bowen three at 3:11 and never posed a real threat to regain the lead.
Lafayette finally returns home to Kirby Sports Center on Wednesday to host Bucknell at 7 p.m.
