EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette hosted Lehigh at Metzgar Athletic Fields on Saturday afternoon for the first day of the four-game series. The Leopards took the first game 3-1 against the Mountain Hawks and fell 7-0 in the second game.
The Leopards (13-24, 2-8) led off with a Kasey Karr home run along the left line just staying fair by inches.
Lafayette added another run in the second inning when Carly Feiro scored off a pass ball from catcher Liz Lucas, Leopards lead 2-0.
The Maroon and White scored its final run in the third inning. Stacey Kushner singled to left field, Stacey Dorn reached first on an error by Jen Calquhoun and Kushner advanced to third off another Mountain Hawk error.
Kerry Griffin brought Kushner around off a single, Lafayette took a 3-0 lead.
Lafayette's defense held strong not allowing a single run until the fifth inning, when Lehigh's Brooke Lewis led off with a double. Carly Potock followed with a triple that brought Lewis home for the first run.
The Leopards went on to win the first game off the series 3-1. Karr pitched all seven innings in the win not allowing a hit until the fourth inning giving up five hits all together and striking out four batters.
Lehigh (22-14, 6-4) started the second game with a Julie Fernandez home run to center field followed by a run by Calquhoun off a pass ball as the Mountain Hawks took a 2-0 lead.
Lafayette was only able to get off four hits in the seven innings, Griffin with two of the hits. Lehigh held strong and went on to win 7-0 with two hits in the fifth and three in the seventh.
Christine Hilcken pitched less than an inning before relief pitcher Karr came in for 4.2 innings. In the loss, Hilcken and Karr gave up two runs and Ali Henry gave up three.
Lafayette will continue the series against Lehigh tomorrow beginning at noon.
