Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa - The Lafayette women's soccer team is off to a good start for the 2010 season, picking up a 2-0 win against La Salle on Tuesday night. The Leopards' goals both came in the second half by Janelle Pierson and Jill Dozier.

La Salle had nearly four times as many shots as Lafayette (17-5). The Leopards' sophomore goalie Lauren Smedley made 12 saves and picked up her first shutout of the season, to the Explorers' three.

The action was limited in a scoreless first half. The Explorers came out firing off five shots before Lafayette (2-0-0) could get off a single one. The Leopards finally had their chance at the 41st and 44th minute but both shots were saved by La Salle (2-2-0) goalie Gabby Pakhtigian.

The Maroon and White came out strong in the second half, in the 55th minute Mackenzie Moore found the ball to pass to Pierson, whose 25-yard shot found the back of the net to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead.

With 16 minutes left in the game, the ball found freshman Catherine Galgano who had a breakaway and passed it along to Dozier, who scored the final goal.

The Leopards are back in action when they welcome NEC opponent St. Francis (Pa.) to Oaks Stadium on Friday night for a 7 p.m. game.
