HAMILTON, N.Y. - For the fifth time in six matches this season, the Lafayette men's soccer team allowed just one goal or fewer, relinquishing a single tally to Binghamton on Friday night at the Colgate Raider Adidas Classic in Hamilton, N.Y. Unfortunately for the Leopards, that goal just 74 seconds into play proved decisive as the Bearcats claimed a 1-0 decision.
With the loss, Lafayette falls to 3-2-1 on the season. Binghamton registers its first win of the young campaign, improving to 1-4.
The lone tally of the match came off the foot on Binghamton's Kyle Manscuk with Adam Whitehead picking up the assist on the corner kick.
Action went scoreless for the remaining 88:46, as Leopards' senior goalkeeper Andrew Pianko stopped all three shots on goal that he was after the early goal. Binghamton's Chris Hayen matched Pianko with a trio of stops in net.
Overall, the Bearcats outshot Lafayette, 12-6, and had an 8-1 edge on corner kicks.
Junior Wayne Maminski, sophomore Kyle Scharfenberg and freshman Jeff McLaughlin fired the Leopards' three shots on goal.
Lafayette will resume the Colgate Raider Adidas Classic on Sunday with a noon match against Vermont. The tournament is the second this season featuring both Lafayette and Colgate, though once against the Leopards and Raiders will not meet. The Patriot League foes will finally square off on Oct. 16 in Hamilton as a part of the PL slate.
