HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Colgate Friday night, snapping a five game winning streak for the Leopards. Lafayette (9-4-1, 4-1-0 Patriot) remains on top of the Patriot League standings with 12 points, but is only one point ahead of the second-place Raiders who currently have 11 points.

"To be fair, I thought Colgate was the better team over the 90 minutes tonight," head coach Mick Statham said. "We played quite well for periods of the game and I was certainly encouraged by our response after going 2-0 down. I thought that was when we played our best soccer of the game."

Colgate (9-4-2, 3-0-2 Patriot) controlled the action from the start and finally broke the scoreless tie in the 44th minute. Jillian Kinter fired a low strike that Lafayette keeper Lauren Smedley got a hand on, but couldn't stop from crossing the goal line, giving the home side a 1-0 lead at halftime. Kinter's tally, assisted by Alyssa Manoogian, was one of eight Colgate shots in the first 45 minutes, two of which were turned away by Smedley.

The Raiders extended their lead at the 62:33 mark on Jenna Raepple's unassisted goal. Lafayette's best scoring chance in the contest came off the foot of Alyssa Finelli in the 88th minute but Colgate goalie Ashley Walsh made the stop to preserve the 2-0 advantage.

In total, Colgate took 13 shots, including six on goal, and held Lafayette to just two shots. Julia Bell was yellow-carded in the 57th minute and the Raiders earned four corner kicks, compared to Lafayette's three. Walsh was credited with the shutout for Colgate and Smedley made four stops for Lafayette.

Lafayette's next contest is Sunday afternoon at Bucknell (4-9-1, 2-3-0 Patriot). The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and is the second of three consecutive road games to end the regular season for the Leopards.
