EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to Colgate on Friday night at Kirby Sports Center, falling by set scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20. The Leopards were led by nine kills from Camissa Beghou.
With the loss, the Leopards fall to 8-16 overall and 1-10 in the Patriot League. Colgate, which clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth with the victory, moves to 12-14 on the season with an 8-3 League record.
Beghou's nine kills, which equaled the match high from Colgate' Maureen Colligan, were sparked by finishers on six errorless swings in the second set. Junior Alexandra Russo notched five kills for the Leopards, and three players - Kaitlynn Zoller, Sarah Frohnapfel and Danielle Towslee - each recorded four kills. Senor Alana Taylor slammed home two kills to round out the Lafayette offense. Frohnapfel ran the Lafayette attack and dished out 22 assists.
On the defensive end, Michelle Woodworth shared the match best of 10 digs. Russo contributed eight from the back row and Zoller registered seven digs. Taylor and Zoller had a hand in three blocks apiece as the Leopards outblocked the Raiders, 4-3.
Lafayette served up six aces, led by three from Christy Mebust. Towslee, Zoller and Frohnapfel each landed a winner for the Leopards. Colgate had nine service aces, fueled by seven from Caitlin Cremin.
Colligan's nine kills led the Raiders, who also got six finishers from Lindsay Young and Kaylee Dougherty. Kaylee Fifer neared a double-double with a match-best 31 assists and eight digs at setter. In the back row, Lexi Finger and Cremin matched Woodworth's 10 digs.
The Leopards close out to home slate tomorrow afternoon as Bucknell visits College Hill for a 2 p.m. contest. Lafayette will honors its senior class prior to the match, which will be broadcast live on GoLeopards.com.
