EASTON, Pa.- After a two-game road swing, Lafayette (10-15, 5-5) returns home to host Patriot League leader Bucknell (18-8, 9-1) on Wednesday night. While jockeying for Patriot League Tournament seeding, the Leopards will play three of their last four games at home.
Lafayette rests at 5-5 in the Patriot League standings, good enough for a third-place tie with Lehigh. The Leopards trail Bucknell (9-1) and American (7-3) and are a game ahead of Holy Cross and Navy, while Army and Colgate are tied for sixth at 3-7.
Lafayette tied its season-high with 13 three-pointers at Colgate (matching the mark from the double-overtime game at FDU on Jan. 2). Rob Delaney led the way with three three-pointers while Tony Johnson, Jim Mower, Ben Wheeler and Levi Giese each had two apiece. Lafayette shot 13-of-22 on the night. Three days later at Navy, Lafayette shot a season-low nine percent (2-for-22) from downtown. Giese and Mower were the only Leopards able to connect from the perimeter.
Bucknell sits atop the Patriot League standings with just one blemish, a head-scratching 90-70 loss at Army on Jan. 29. The Bison have won 11 of their last 12 outings while posting a 9-1 mark in conference action. Colgate, Lehigh and Army remain on the conference calendar for Bucknell.
Sophomore forward Mike Muscala is part of a potent inside-out combination. He leads the team in scoring (15.7), rebounding (7.5) and blocked shots (1.8). Classmate Bryson Johnson (11.0 ppg) in the main perimeter threat for the Bison, connecting for 75 three-pointers while shooting 47 percent from beyond the arc (sixth in the nation).
Senior Daryl Shazier distributes the ball for the Bison, dishing out 5.5 assists per game while chipping in 8.1 ppg. Junior Bryan Cohen has started every game (6.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and has been a significant contributor along with senior G.W. Boon (9.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg). Sophomore forward Joe Willman (8.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg) occupies the other spot in the starting five.
Leopard fans making their way to Kirby Sports Center for Lafayette's showdown with first place Bucknell on Wednesday evening are encouraged to bring their appetites. Lafayette will be hosting the debut of Dollar Dog Night, as hot dogs will only be one dollar for all fans at concession stands.
