EASTON, Pa.- The Leopards (9-14, 4-4) are coming off a 76-70 win over Holy Cross on Saturday and travel to Colgate (6-17, 3-5) on Wednesday. The Crusaders picked up two wins last week against Longwood and Army.
The Leopards (4-4) sit alone in third place in the Patriot League standings behind Bucknell (7-1) and American (6-2). Behind Lafayette is a logjam with the remaining five schools knotted in fourth place at 3-5.
Senior Jared Mintz has started in 65 career games, averaging 21.5 minutes per outing. In Saturday's game against Holy Cross, Mintz saw action for only 16 minutes, the shortest stint on the floor since his first career start against Holy Cross on Jan. 10, 2009 when he played 14 minutes. The senior also fouled out on Saturday, marking his second career disqualification (Colgate 1/14/09).
Colgate's Yaw Gyawu is the team's leading scorer (12.7 ppg) and the second-best rebounder (4.5 rpg). Up front, he is joined by and 6-10 junior center Nick Pascale (6.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg), junior forward Sterling Melville (5.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg) and sophomore forward Brandon James (5.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg).
The Raiders' backcourt has benefitted from the return of junior guard Mike Venezia (9.2 ppg) who has played in 15 games. Venezia scored 14 points off the bench against Army. Senior guard Joe Hoban (10.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg) is the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, coming off a 22-point game vs. Longwood and a 20-point effort vs. Army. Sophomore Mitch Rolls (7.5 ppg, 2.2 rpg), who had 23 against Army, fills out the starting lineup.
Lafayette heads to Annapolis, Md. on Saturday, looking for a season sweep of the Mids. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
