KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Lafayette's 10-game swing at the Rebel Spring Games continued on Tuesday with the Leopards dropping a 6-4 decision to Houston Baptist and a 7-2 setback to Akron.
In the first game, Houston Baptist (13-10) took the early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first while forcing the Leopards to make a pitching change.
Lafayette scored four unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Houston Baptist's Mollye Mlcak drove in the go-ahead score. The Huskies added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth in the 6-4 final.
Beth Evans (3-2) earned the victory in relief for Houston Baptist.
In the second game, Akron scored two runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings in a 7-2 win.
In the top of the third, Alissa Birkhimer drove in the Zips' first run and Katie Gross stole home to give Akron the early 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Alex Feltes plated a run with a single to center. The Zips added two more runs in the sixth on a single and fielder's choice.
Lafayette made some noise at the plate in its final at bat. Kristin Garaganio (single) and Carly Feiro (double) opened the inning with hits. Lauren Murphy drove in a run with a sac fly and Kerry Griffin singled in the Leopards' final run.
In the game, six players had hits for the Leopards with Feiro and Murphy each doubling.
Melissa Robinson took the loss, surrendering six earned runs on 15 hits with no walks and one strikeout. Heather Bauer (4-2) threw 6.1 innings with five strikeouts. She gave up two runs on six hits.
Lafayette (0-12) closes out the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday, facing Youngstown State at 1 p.m. and Rider at 3 p.m.
