SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Lafayette ended the weekend and its spring break swing of 15 games with a 4-0 loss to Manhattan in the final round of the Seton Hall Pirate Classic on Sunday.
The Jaspers scored one in the first, two in the third and one in the fifth. Each team managed just three hits in the morning affair.
Manhattan's (6-11) first run was scored by lead-off batter Kate Bowen who reached on an error and later came plateward on Nicole Michel's sac fly.
An error aided Manhattan's offense in the third with Michelle Roemer scoring on a throwing error and Meghan McDevitt driving in another run. Manhattan added an insurance run in the fifth off Lafayette reliever Emily Noel. The Leopards' fourth and final error of the game led to the fourth run.
The Leopards' best scoring chance came in the top of the sixth. Lafayette put two runners in scoring position with two outs and was helped by one of two Manhattan errors. A strikeout ended the scoring chance.
Lauren Hasson (0-3) took the loss, despite not giving up an earned run. The freshman walked five and struck out two on two hits over four innings. Bowen (2-0) whiffed five with three walks on three hits in the shutout.
Carly Feiro had two hits for the Leopards on Sunday, and along with Gwen Turner was named to the all-tournament team. Feiro hit .417 (5-for-12) in the five-game tournament with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Turner scored four of the Leopards' 12 runs and hit .316 in the series. For the season, Feiro (.436) and Turner (.343) are the team's top two hitters in terms of batting average.
Lafayette (1-18) next plays on Wednesday at Rider beginning at 3 p.m.
