EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Hartford on Friday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the loss, the Leopards fall to 4-2 on the season, while Hartford remains undefeated at 6-0-1.
"I was pleased with our performance, just not the result," head coach Mick Statham said. "I thought the players gave a good effort physically and emotionally."
Following a scoreless first half, Hartford got on the board in the 52nd minute when Arielle Aikens crossed a ball from the right side that found Amelia Pereria, who beat
Lauren Smedley for the decisive tally.
"I thought the back four were outstanding," Statham added. "Freshmen Alex Reisinger and Kelly Boyce played with great maturity, Catherine Galgano played well and senior leader Angela CampoBasso had the best performance of her Lafayette career today. I'm really proud of all of them."
Pereria's marker was her third of the season. Erin Quinlan earned the win in goal for the Hawks, turning away four Lafayette shots en route to her fifth shutout of the season.
The Hawks held the statistical advantage in the game, outshooting the Maroon and White 14-8, and corner kicks, 2-1. Nicole Brownell registered three of the Leopards shots in the contest.
Each team was cautioned once in the match, Allison Stone in the 75th minute for Lafayette and Aikens at the 79:41 mark.
Lafayette returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. when it plays its fifth game of a six game road trip against Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
