EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped the fifth game of its six game road trip, 1-0 against Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Lauren Smedley made nine saves in goal for the Leopards (4-3) in the loss. The Red Foxes (4-3) move above .500 for the first time this season with the win.
"I was very disappointed with the account we gave of ourselves in the first half," head coach Mick Statham said. "We gained new vigor of the game in the second half and played much better, although I don't think we troubled the Marist goalkeeper enough. Overall, I'm reasonably pleased with how we played over the weekend, but we're certainly going to have to concentrate for longer periods of time and have a little more quality as we enter the final third in our future games."
The game's only goal came in the 35th minute from Mariah Downey who corralled a loose ball from a shot off the foot of Amanda Epstein, who was credited with the assist on the play. Epstein and Samantha Panzner totaled four shots apiece in the match.
Marist registered 20 shots in the game, 10 on goal, while Lafayette only put four on frame. The Red Foxes also held the slight edge in corner kicks, 2-1.
Jill Dozier, Janelle Pierson, Shannon Neschke and Alyssa Finelli each recorded a shot on Marist keeper, Caitlin Landsman, who turned all four shots away in the shutout.
Angela CampoBasso and Alex Reisinger were recognized on the All-Invitational Team after the two weekend games at the Red Fox Invitational.
The Leopards close out the six game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m.
