EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team played Princeton to a 2-2 draw Wednesday night at Roberts Stadium in Princeton, N.J. The tie wraps up a season-long six game road trip for the Leopards who stand at 4-3-1 overall, while the Tigers move to 1-5-1 on the season.

"I'm happy with the team's performance tonight," head coach Mick Statham said. "We put forth a great physical effort. It's not an easy place to come to and play well and Princeton is a very good team. I'm pleased with our overall teamwork and we played well in certain stretches of the game, especially defensively."Jill Dozier opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game when she took a pass from Julia Bell, got past the Tigers defense, and beat Princeton keeper Darcy Hargadon for her first goal of the season. Dozier's goal was the only scoring opportunity in the half for Lafayette, which was outshot 8-1 in opening 45 minutes.

The Leopards extended their lead to 2-0 less than three minutes into the second half as a result of a corner kick. Alex Reisinger served a ball into the box that eventually found the head of Janelle Pierson, who deposited it in the back of the net. Pierson's tally was her first of the year.

Princeton quickly countered with a goal of its own in the 52nd minute following an attempted clear by the Leopards back line. Sara Chehrehsa collected the ball and fired a shot that beat goalkeeper Lauren Smedley, cutting the Lafayette lead in half.

At the 62:36 mark, the Tigers evened the score after Rachel Sheehy put a shot on goal that rebounded back to Liana Cornaccio, who netted the equalizer. The teams played scoreless soccer for the remainder of regulation, which was supported by two saves by Smedley in the final 2:02.

The Tigers controlled both overtime periods, taking six shots, including three by Caitlin Blosser. One shot was turned away by Smedley and another hit the post in the 99th minute. Smedley totaled 10 saves in the contest.

The Maroon and White now have two non-conference games remaining before league play begins at Lehigh on Oct. 1.

Lafayette returns to Easton, Pa. on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Manhattan. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
