WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - With a lid on the basket all night for the Leopards' offense, the Lafayette women's basketball team fell to Monmouth, 62-43, on Friday evening in the first of two games as part of the Thanksgiving Challenge, pitting the Patriot League against the Northeast Conference.

Sophomore co-captain Emily Homan led Lafayette in scoring with 18 points and came up one rebound shy of her first double-double of the season with nine boards. Junior co-captain Danielle Fiacco snagged 11 rebounds and added six points from the opposite block.

Lafayette struggled with its worst shooting half of the season to this point, going 4-for-28 in the opening stanza, a 14.3% mark. The Leopards did not score a field goal in the first half until the 9:13 mark. The Leopards turned it around a bit in the second half as they've done all season, shooting at a 33.3% clip, going 9-for-27.

Monmouth's Alysha Womack, coming into the game averaging 22.3 points per game so far this season, did not disappoint. Womack finished the night with 20 points and eight assists, leading all scorers and passers. The Hawks' Abigail Martin gave Lafayette fits down low, as her physical presence disrupted the Leopards' low post game all evening. Martin notched 12 points and four rebounds for the game offensively as well.

Monmouth came out hot, surging to a 21-4 lead before Lafayette's Madeline Fahan sank a jumper for the team's first make from the field. A Martin layup with 2:22 remaining before the break pushed the lead to its largest of the half at 23, 36-13. Lafayette went into the locker room trailing, 36-17.

The Leopards came out in the second half with a renewed energy, pulling within nine at the 16:36 mark on a jumper from Homan. Unfortunately, Monmouth's Chevannah Paalvast was able to sneak a layup past Homan and Kelly Loughney to shift the momentum back in the Hawks' favor and push the lead to 11.

For the final 16 minutes, Monmouth continued to answer Lafayette's runs, not allowing the lead to sink below 11 for the remainder of the contest. In the end, Lafayette's comeback bid fell short as Monmouth earned its first win of the season, 62-43.

Lafayette will finish off the Thanksgiving Challenge on Sunday at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa. as it takes on the Wagner Seahawks at 4 p.m.
