KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Lafayette registered its first victory of the season, beating Wagner 6-1 on Tuesday in the Rebel Spring Games. The Leopards dropped the second game of the day, 3-0, to Howard.
Against Wagner, Lafayette scored all the offense it needed in the top of the third inning. Jordan Parsons (double) and Stacey Dorn (single) each drove in runs.
Wagner scored its only run of the game in the fourth inning off Lafayette starter Alex Campanaro when she uncorked a wild pitch with runners on the corners and two outs.
The Leopards extended their lead to 4-1 in the sixth and added two more in the seventh. Campanaro plated a pair of runs with a single in the sixth and Parsons (sac fly) and Lauren Murphy (RBI-groundout) extended the final to 6-1.
Campanaro earned the win, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout and six walks. Olivia Zwick took the loss for Wagner, surrendering six runs (four earned) on five hits with three walks and a strikeout.
In the second game, Howard starter Dominique Lawrence held the Leopards' offense in check in seven innings, allowing four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. It was the second time in six games that Lafayette has been shut out.
Howard scored two runs in the top of the first, aided by one of Lafayette's 17 errors this season. Rebecca Kirshner doubled home a run and later scored on one of Trina Kindred's three singles in the game.
In the third, Kristen Berger led off with a double and moved to third with one out. The Leopards could not bring her the final 60 feet as Parsons popped up and Dorn struck out looking to end the inning with Howard leading 2-0.
The Bison added a run in the visitor half of the fourth. Lawrence opened the inning with a walk and came plateward via an error as Howard held on for a 3-0 final.
Melissa Robinson gave up three runs (none earned) on six hits with a walk and a strikeout. The standout sophomore is 0-4 with a 0.56 ERA in four starts.
Lafayette returns to action on Wednesday with consecutive games against Youngstown State and Utah Valley. The first pitch vs. Youngstown State is slated for 9 a.m.
