EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette volleyball team pulled off its third straight victory Friday, kicking off the Lafayette College Tournament with a win over the Hornets of Delaware State. After dropping a tight first set, the Leopards rallied to take the next three.

Junior Karissa Ciliento followed up a 13-kill performance on Tuesday at St. Francis (N.Y.) with another 13-kill showing against the Hornets. Sophomores Camissa Beghou and Danielle Towslee added nine and seven kills respectively.

Lafayette boasted two double-digit defensive performances as sophomore Michelle Woodworth dug up 16 balls, while senior Kaitlynn Zoller added 10 digs. Senior Sarah Frohnapfel handled the majority of the setting duties with 23 assists and Towslee led the Leopards at the net with four blocks.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair featuring eight ties. A Brooke Redmon kill off a Christobel Fakaosi feed broke the final 19-19 tie mark, giving the Hornets the momentum they would need to close out the set 25-23.

The second set was all Lafayette. A feed from junior Molly Belcher led to a thundering Ciliento kill that sparked a seven-point run putting the Leopards up 15-7 midway through the set. Lafayette cruised from that point forward, as they ran away with it, 25-16.

In the third, controversy settled in as a dispute over the serving rotation led to an approximately 15 minute delay with the Leopards up 15-11. After the break, the Hornets fought to pull even at 24-24. As the set went into extra points, two huge Beghou kills gave the Leopards the luxury of waiting for a Delaware State mistake. They got that mistake as an attack error by Redmon gave Lafayette the set, 29-27.

The Leopards were not to be denied in the fourth set as a five-point streak, featuring four straight Hornet attack errors, put them ahead 12-7. The comeback effort was denied as a fitting Ciliento kill ended the match with a fourth-set final of 25-22.

The Lafayette College Tournament continues tomorrow as the Leopards take on St. Peter's at 10 a.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson at 5 p.m. inside Kirby Sports Center.
