WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette men captured a 181-110 win over Colgate on Saturday as part of a three-way meet with Colgate.

"It was the first time the men beat Colgate in a very long time. I'm happy the men came together and swam what we are capable of," said Lafayette head coach Jim Dailey. "It's been a tough interim period in terms of training and everyone came through today with flying colors. We swam tired but we also swam fast tired."

"The next step is to get our taper swimmers ready for next weekend as the team attends the Bison Invitational at Bucknell University. If today was any indication of how well we will do they will be excited about their performances next week." Rob Lowery took home second place in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.72. Lowery was also part of the winning team in the 400 free relay, joining Christopher Wickwire, Joshua Hitchings and Evan Newbold who swam a time of 3:16.42, beating Colgate's entry by 44 hundredths.

Newbold finished third in the 200 backstroke in 1:59.26 just behind teammate Dan Ladd (1:58.84). Wickwire took home second place in the 100 butterfly in 52.97. Greg Grewal placed second and fourth in the 100 and 200 breast stroke events, respectively, and secured top honors in the 200 IM (2:01.01). Robert Pollastro took second in the 200 IM, improving his season times in the breast stroke and IM.

Martin Anderson placed third in the 1650 free in 16:55.40. In the freestyle spring events, Adam Gill (4:52.99) and Tom St.Vincent (1:45.72) placed first and second in the 500 free and 200 free, respectively.

In women's action Jaclyn Andrews placed third in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:11.99. Megan Kaveney was third in the 50 free in 24:42.

In the balance of the team scoring, Army topped the Lafayette men, 189-109. The Black Knight women beat the Leopards 224.5-75.5 and the Colgate women handed Lafayette a 233-66 decision.

Lafayette returns to action on Feb. 2 when the Leopards compete at the Bucknell Invitational.
