DOVER, Del. - The Lafayette softball team dropped a 10-4 decision on Sunday in the final round of the Sean Savage Epilepsy Awareness Tournament hosted by Delaware State. Brown used a four-run fifth inning to erase Lafayette's early lead in the teams' third meeting of the season.
Trailing 1-0, Lafayette took the lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. Allison Brown's RBI-double was sandwiched by run-scoring singles from Jordan Parsons and Melissa Robinson. All of the Leopards' runs came with two outs in the inning during which the rally forced a Brown pitching change.
In the fourth, Kristen Berger's RBI-single pushed Lafayette's lead to 4-1. The Bears responded with two runs off Robinson in the bottom of the inning both coming on infield singles.
Brown's next inning broke open the game as the Bears used four hits to score six runs while sending 11 batters to the plate. Jen Kries, Janet Leung and Trista Chavez each plated a pair of runs as Brown (6-7) took the 9-4 lead.
Robinson (3-7) took the loss, allowing 10 runs (four earned) on 13 hits over six innings. The junior walked three and struck out one in her ninth start of the season. Sarah Ropiak was in the circle for the win, surrendering one run on three hits over 4.1 innings while fanning five and walking one.
Lafayette (4-11) will next play Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
