Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball fell to visiting Bucknell, 3-0, on Friday night inside Kirby Sports Center. Prior to the match the Leopards honored their four seniors, Katy Rooney, Danielle Towslee, Melanie Weiss and Michelle Woodworth.
Lafayette (5-21, 2-12 PL) was led by the duo of Rooney and Towslee as they combined for 15 kills. Sophomore Samantha Volk handed out a match-high 31 assists, while junior Lauren Pisauro led the way with 11 digs. Bucknell (5-17, 4-10 PL) received a match-high 14 kills from both Hailey Stout and Karen Campbell.
After falling behind early in the opening set, three kills from Towslee gave the Leopards the lead, 7-5. Bucknell used an 8-0 run to regain the lead and take control of the game, 13-7. The Leopards closed the gap to 13-9 on a block assist from Rooney and Brianne Giangiobbe, but the Bison took the first set, 25-15.
The second set went back and forth with the Leopards finally able to push ahead on back-to-back kills from Katherine Stevens, 13-11. Bucknell answered and took the lead at 21-19. Lafayette rallied to tie the set at 21 on a block assist from Stevens and Volk and a kill from Jet Manzi, but the Bison closed out the frame with a 4-0 spurt.
In the third set, Bucknell jumped out to a 7-2 lead, forcing a Lafayette timeout. The Leopards battled back to tie the game at 13 on a pair of kills from both Rooney Towslee and a kils from Stevens. The Bison went ahead, 20-16 before a 4-0 spurt, highlighted by a Volk kill and ace tied the set at 20. Once again Bucknell edged ahead 23-21, but the Leopards responded. Kills from Stevens and Rooney and an ace from Stevens gave Lafayette a 24-23 lead. Bucknell used its own 3-0 spurt to squeeze by the Leopards, 26-24 in the third set, and take the match, 3-0.
The Leopards close out the campaign next weekend at Army on Nov. 14 and at Holy Cross on Nov. 15.
